The Customer
Located in Europe, our customer is a major franchiser of hotel properties worldwide and enjoys tremendous brand value. Being one of the biggest names in Business, the customer has excellent reputation of great service at compatible rates in all its’ franchisee hotels. The customer maintains active communication with management of its’ franchisees to ensure the requisite quality of service and competitiveness in their respective local markets.

The Challenge
The customer, as a part of its regular communication with its franchisee, makes available an advisory on expected occupancy and rates on a monthly basis. This price guidance is used by the franchisee managements to assess demand-supply patterns and reach their own rack and special internet rates. Thus, the customer needed authentic and accurate information of hotel-rates across the major cities of the world along with the variation and analytical summaries for each such city.

The Solution
RateGain used its proprietary software technology to set up a comparative rates report of all the hotels in 50 major cities of the world where the hotel chain has properties. Price data as available on the top five merchant portals(eg. Orbitz, Travelocity, Hotels.com etc.) on the web was used to compile these reports. Each monthly report consisted of rates for check-in dates of next 30 days. Duration of stay was taken to be one night for double room or double occupancy.

By analyzing the rates of the competing chains, their pricing strategies could be analysed and appropriate action could be taken.
The price data from different portals also helped our customer analyze the pricing strategies of these portals for different properties.
The hotel chain was able to deliver valuable pricing guidance resulting in increase in occupancy rates by 15%.
